We started the morning early to visit the monument for the Silk Road as we exited Xian. Photos were taken of the group by the monument and then photos of each car at the entrance. It was a stone carving of travellers with their camels.
We drove to Tianshu and visited the Maijishan Grottos early afternoon. What an amazing set of grottos high on the hillside containing Buddha statues mostly created from clay. There is still some colouring left on the walls. Catwalks and stairways take the visitor across the grottos. One does not want to suffer from vertigo! It is amazing to wonder how they were originally created so many years ago as they date back over 1400 years.
